Build a Beautiful Backyard Bar

For people who love to entertain, an outdoor bar space is a DIY backyard oasis essential—and it’s an easy project to put together yourself. Once you’ve chosen a great spot to place a bar, all you’ll need to do is build a simple frame to serve as the base for an island-style bar. Leave one side open so that you can install shelving beneath the bar, or use cabinets to create your base. Add a beautiful countertop and some bar stools, and you’re ready to mix and serve drinks on balmy summer evenings.

If you want to add unique style, plus plenty of durability, to your outdoor bar, consider creating it with our faux wood panels. You’ll find everything from rustic looks to sleek chevron panels, which will let you create a stylish bar perfectly suited to your outdoor decor.

Create a Shade Retreat

This project might take you a couple of weekends—and some help from your friends—but with beams, pillars, and some lumber for framework and roof decking, you can transform your patio from a sun-baked space to a shady retreat where you’ll love to spend long weekends. Install posts around the perimeter of the patio and a basic frame on top to support the beams. From there, you can use plywood or OSB board to extend your home’s roof deck over the patio, then install a roofing material of your choice.

Before you build, don’t forget to account for your favorite DIY backyard design ideas. For example, if you love the look of natural stone, you can cover your patio posts with our faux stone column wraps for a more rustic aesthetic.

Outdoor fireplaces work wonders to add loads of ambiance to your backyard oasis—and there’s a lot that you can do to make your fireplace even more beautiful. One quick way to breathe new life into an outdoor fireplace is to install new mantel beams. Available in a variety of styles, a new mantel will add richness and extra warmth to your outdoor space—and you can use it to display plants and other bits of decor, too.

Here’s some more backyard design inspiration: If your outdoor fireplace is part of a wall, then maybe it’s time to elevate the look of that wall. For a natural aesthetic with timeless appeal, try installing faux river rock panels around the fireplace. You can get these panels in three charming colors—and it’ll only take you a weekend to get them installed so that you can start enjoying a revitalized outdoor living space.

Crucial Safety Considerations When Placing Faux Panels & Beams Around Fireplaces

To ensure your safety, it is important to point out that our faux panels are made from polyurethane, which is combustible. Please refer to your fireplace insert/stove manufacturer's specifications for required clearances. When using our products around an open hearth with a "live flame" (i.e., wood, coal, etc.), you must use an authentic stone or non-flammable border. Based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, a minimum 6” non-flammable border is required for all combustible materials with a thickness of 1 ½”. If a product is selected with a thickness over 1 ½”, an additional 1” of non-flammable border must be added for every 1/8” of additional product thickness. Some building codes may require a clearance greater than 6”.

Please check with your local Fire Marshall for your particular application to ensure you are in complete fire code compliance.

Looking for backyard oasis ideas that will encourage you and your family to get outside more? One problem with many outdoor living spaces is that they’re wide open—and not everyone wants to kick back and relax in full view of the whole neighborhood. That’s why a lot of homeowners are turning to privacy fences, screens, or even a privacy wall on one side of a roofed patio. It’s a quick and easy way to make your outdoor space feel more like an extension of your interior spaces, with all the coziness and privacy you could want.

So how do you do it? For a privacy wall, all you need to do is install some framework along the side of the patio that you’d like to wall off. Then use our faux stone wall panels to cover the framework and create a beautiful, natural aesthetic.
