Evolve Stone FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Evolve Stone comes with a 50-year, limited warranty.

Colors may vary from box to box as the hues will remain constant while accents change. We always recommend mixing multiple boxes together during installation for the best results.

We recommend taking a soft-bristled brush and mild dishwashing soap to clean the surface of Evolve Stone. Avoid harsh cleaning products as they can contain harmful ingredients that could alter the appearance of the stone.

While the Evolve Stone material can handle a lower pressure setting at a conservative distance, the substrate could become damaged in the process which could affect the lifespan of the installation.

Because of the nature of the material, the backs of the stones are not always flat. This is normal and should still allow for proper installation.

Broken stones can still be easily used during the installation. Set aside any broken pieces until they are needed in areas where cuts are needed. If the box has an excessive number of broken pieces, please contact us.

Black or grey. The dark colors will be able to hide any seams that might appear after installation is completed.

Stones vary in depth between 3/8" to 1 ¼" thick with a median thickness between 5/8" and ¾". Surface angulation helps maintain natural texture and depth.

In most cases, Evolve Stone installs using a finish nail gun and stainless-steel finish nails. Some substrates may require an alternate installation method. Please consult the Installation Guide

Yes, it is recommended that you open multiple boxes at a time and blend the contents together before installation.

No, they do not. For the best results, we ask that you follow the nail pattern requirements in page 5-6 of the Installation Guide

In most cases Evolve Stone uses standard wood working tools to install. Tools listed on page 3 of the Installation Guide

A general cutting blade works. Use a carbide blade if lots of cuts are required

Evolve Stone has minimal waste/breakage, so it is recommended that an extra 3% be ordered just in case.

It is recommended that an STPE adhesive system be used such as Tremco TremGrip adhesive with Tremco Vulkum 171 primer. The primer should be used on both the substrate and the back side of the stones. The adhesive should be applied in vertical beads to the backside of the stones only. We recommend testing a few stones before completing the installation.

A general rule is (3) to (4) 10oz tubes of Tremco TremGrip per box of stones. One quart of Vulkum 171 is recommended per (10) to (12) tubes of adhesive.

Self-tapping stainless steel trim finish head screws are recommended. 3.5" or 4" length. Look at GRK Finishing Trim Head Screws.

This product is not fire-rated and needs to be treated as combustible.

We don’t recommend using Evolve Stone as a kitchen backsplash or shower wall since repeated exposure to water or other cooking items can result in mold/surface staining due to the natural surface textures trapping these particles.

Finish nails should be long enough to penetrate ¼" through the back of the structural sheathing. Finish nails should be 304 grade stainless steel for standard exterior installation. In the case of coastal environments or area with high concentrations of salt in the air, 316 grade stainless steel is recommended.

- For Standard Exterior conditions we recommend 304 grade stainless steel.
- For Extreme Exterior conditions such as coastal environments or areas with corrosive airborne particles we recommend 316 grade stainless steel.

- Georgetown Run - minimum 10 to 12
- District View - minimum 20 to 22
- National True - minimum 7 to 10

Height of corner stones may be slightly taller than field stones at times. Adjust corner stone height before installing as needed or use guidelines to help split the size difference.

Water resistive barriers (WRB) must comply with ASTM E2556 Type I or Type II. Make sure the WRB is installed correctly, meets code, and the system is watertight and weather resistant.

No, it cannot. Drainable house wraps do not provide the necessary gap with Evolve Stone to allow for water to drain and can become trapped against the structure. Over time, this trapped water can cause damage to the structure.

Yes. That said, make sure that your substrate is appropriate for ground contact and that drainage is impeded in no way.

Evolve Stone weighs approximately 2 lbs per square foot.

Per ASTM testing, the material shows no effects when exposed to salt spray during testing, shows no effects when exposed to freeze-thaw cycles during testing, does not retain water, has minimal expansion/contraction, is UV resistant, and performs extremely well under wind loading.

Evolve Stone is colored throughout so any chipped or broken pieces can be re-textured and be used in the installation.

Yes, our publication number is ESR3970 for Non-Rated products

Below are the square footage amounts per box for each style we offer:

- Georgetown Run: 14.25 sq. ft.
- District View: 14.25 sq. ft.
- National True: 14.25 sq. ft.

One box of corners contains 7 linear feet of coverage. For example, one box of corners will cover the ground to 7 feet high on a corner installation.

15 sills come in a box with each sill measuring 20” long. Therefore, one box of sills contains 25 linear feet of coverage.
