Installing Faux Stone Panels in Your Home
Wondering how to install faux stone panels? It’s easy! Our faux stone panels can be installed by just one person since they're made of high-density polyurethane, an especially lightweight—yet durable—material.
Here are a few tips and tricks to make installation a breeze:
Lay the panels out on the ground in the order you plan to install them and make sure no specific area draws your eye.
Depending on the style of stone panel you choose, there may be one, two, or three molds. (Most styles have one or two molds.)
If the style has multiple molds, you will get an assortment and they'll be labeled A, B, or C after the style number on the top lip of the panel.
Note that all of our panels are hand painted so no two panels are identical, even if they're of the same mold.
Only solid color panels like glacier (white) and those with little color variation (like frosted gray and creamy beige) may appear the same.
Variances come from both the underlying panel as well as the paint.
Mixing up your panels as you install them can result in a more natural installation.
Most of our panels are molded so that you can stagger the seams during installation.
Staggering the seams will help disguise them because some panels go left to right, some from right to left, and some from bottom to top.
Think through the entire installation project and how you might handle the more difficult areas, such as corners, windows, and doors.
Figure out the hardest part first.

Our faux stone panels are made from a high-density polyurethane. Our products are NOT made from soft EPS Styrofoam. This enables us to make exact replicas of stone products without worrying about product damages and wear down.
Most standard panels are 48” wide by 24” tall. The exact dimensions vary by style and are listed under the “Specifications” tab on each product page.

Yes. Our high-density polyurethane panels can be painted with any good quality water based latex paint.
Corner pieces are available for many panel styles or the corners can be mitered.
Yes, in most cases. To install over most tiles you would only need to make sure that the existing tile is structurally sound and fairly flat/level.
If it is an extremely textured (uneven) tile, such as a tumbled marble tile with designs in it, or if it has a different height bullnose tile running through/between the tiles, then it will need to be removed before installing our products.
If it does have a low profile/flat face surface, then the next step is to make sure it is clean, dry, and secure, we would also recommend that you use a fine grit sandpaper and rough up the surface of the tiles so that the adhesive works better.
The most important thing with any install is surface integrity. If your existing tile or grout is loose or chipping, then you may have to remove it first. You can install our panels over tile using our adhesive only installation instructions.
In many cases yes. Panels require a structurally sound, relatively smooth surface for installation, so it depends on the texture of the stucco. If it is a “slight” (less than ¼”) stucco, you should be able to install our product over it.
If the texture of the stucco is heavy or severe, it will require sanding or removing the stucco so there is adequate surface contact (minimum of 85%) between our product and the wall.
The appropriate installation method will depend on the type of wall beneath the stucco.
If it is some type of plywood, MDF, etc. (standard framing materials) then you would just follow our standard exterior adhesive and fastener installation procedures for panels. If it is concrete or masonry then follow the adhesive-only exterior installation instructions.
Although our products are incredibly realistic, they are not real stone, brick or wood. They are molded out of high-density polyurethane. Polyurethane products have similar burning characteristics to wood and should be considered combustible, unless fire-rated polyurethane is specifically ordered.
Most of our products can be used around a fireplace opening/insert, and/or stove, provided you follow the fireplace insert/stove manufacturer's specifications for required clearances.
When using our products around an open hearth where there will be a live flame (i.e., wood, coal, etc.), you must use some type of a stone or non-flammable border.
Based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, a minimum 6” non-flammable border is required for all combustible materials with a thickness of 1 ½”. If a product is selected with a thickness over 1 ½”, an additional 1” of non-flammable border must be added for every 1/8” of additional product thickness.
Some building codes may require a clearance greater than 6”. Please check with your local Fire Marshall for your particular application to ensure you meet the code that applies to you.
Our products are not intended to be used on the hearth. The hearth must be constructed using a non-combustible surface such as marble or stone per local and national building codes.
Our products are not suitable for the inside of your fireplace/firebox. Other than this, our standard high-density polyurethane products can be installed using the fireplace/stove manufacturer recommended clearance for combustible decorative building materials.
You must adhere to any, and all, national and local building and/or fire codes.
Yes, most of our lines have a fire-rated polyurethane option. Products made of fire-rated polyurethane are more expensive and frequently have a longer lead time than products made from our standard high-density polyurethane.
